The Baha'i land was slowly purchased since 1890's by the Baha'i refugees who ended up in Haifa, Palestine in the late 1800's. The land was purchased in pieces by family and followers of Baha'u'llah, some who are still in Haifa, but are now Palestinian from years of marriage with locals. After the 1950's and the establishment of the organized governance of the Baha'is, the world Baha'i community was able to funnel in large amounts of money to build the monuments and purchase more land. They own the garden strip in the front of Mt. Carmel, and the land where the governance buildings are located on the left of the mountain (if you are facing it). They also own several individual homes where Baha'u'llah lived during his life. Most Baha'is were exiled in 1948 along with everyone else. Some can be found in Jordan and Syria. None of the land in Haifa purchased by the Baha'is was stolen land (they are very careful about this!) Most of it was barren and undeveloped on the top rocky sections of Mt. Carmel. It took almost 40 years of continual planting to get those gardens to grow!

The day WILL come when you (and all Palestinians) will be free to go and see those gardens and monuments for yourself.
