On Saturday, 31 July 2004, ¿Zochrot¿ will join the annual camp of the displaced Palestinians from Bire'm in the Galilee.


The camp is a project of the displaced inhabitants of Bire'm and their descendents, who were expelled from their village in October 1948. The purpose of the camp is to pass on the Bire'm residents¿ continuing struggle to return to their village to the younger generation.


In 1951, the High Court of Justice determined that the state committed an injustice against the Bire'm residents which must be rectified, but since then the state has continued to ignore its debt to the residents of Bire'm. Zochrot suggests we take this ¿honorary debt¿ upon ourselves, that we express our solidarity and participate in the struggle of return to Birem.


Joining us are members from Kibbutz Bara'm, who met the Birem residents in a series of dialogues hosted by Zochrot. These meetings were part of Zochrot¿s project to bring together displaced Palestinians and Jews residing on the lands from which they were expelled.

Transportation: The Zochrot bus to Bire'm (#194) will depart from the El-Al Terminal at Tel Aviv Central Train Station (Arlozorov)

Time: Bus leaves at 8:30. Return to Tel Aviv anticipated at 22:00.


Participation fee according to ability.
