Ramleh today has 75,000 residents. It is made up of 16,000 are Palestinian Arabs: 11,000 Palestinian Muslim and 5,000 Palestinian Christian. Currently, it's the capital of Hamerkaz area in Israel. It's a developing city. Most of the Arabs live in downtown Ramleh. The most successful school in Ramleh is the Orthodox School located in downtown area. The mayor of this town is called Yoel Lavi. The women's basketball team is the Israeli champions. The people who lived in the Ramleh of today and the Ramleh of a before '48 say, that the Ramleh of before '48 is better because it was more calm and less crime. Unfortunately, the crime rate in Ramleh ranks in the top five cities in Israel. In the good old days you didn't even have to lock your door!!! My late father was in the RAF and was posted to Ramleh during WW2. He spoke very fondly of the the time he spent there. He had 2 young men working with him from the local community, one was called Brahim I do not remember the other one's name. I think their father grew oranges and was mayor of one of the villages.
